Autism is a lifelong developmental condition that affects, among other things, the way an individual relates to his or her environment and their interaction with other people. Some people may be able to live relatively normal lives, while others may have an accompanying learning challenges and require continued specialist support. The main areas of difficulty are in social communication, social interaction and restricted or repetitive behaviors and interests.
After a diagnosis of autism on an individual, they may undergo treatment, internships and other special education program to help improve their social skills and participation in mainstream education and social activities. However, with the current level of understanding in the cause and treatment of the disorder, there are no known ‘cure’ at this stage.
Painting is a common way of cultivating one’s learning. Vibrant colours bring visual impact and enjoyment, which indirectly calm their emotions and stimulates their love of life. Of course, this is also a way for them to connect emotionally.
This is a brand design of Autistic Art, a Hungarian brand focused on children and adults with autism. Autistic Art organises drawing activities on a regular basis, encouraging individuals with autism to be creative, and turning their artistic creation into souvenirs available for purchase. This enable them to express their creativity and also draws attention to their situation in the wider society.
- Draw – opening the “window” of the soul
Painting, as a way of expressing emotions, is a window that connects the outside world with the minds of people with autism. This provides both the children and the outside word to view one another in a different perspective.
Autistic Art provides encouragement and a medium for autistic children to show their creation. Similar to a “window” of the soul, it allows people to look in, as well as out. The brand design takes the concept of the “window” as the foundation of its representation, to emphasise its “communicative” concept of linking the different realms.
In the Logo design, the combination of two window wireframes represents an open window. The light radiating from the window represents the child’s ideas or understanding being projected to the outside world, thus providing others a view to the artist’s though and soul.
- Each one is unique
In the dynamic logo display, the circular beam of light radiating from the window is combined with the unique artwork of the artist to express the inner spirit released through the window, enhancing the extension of the design.
Combining the children’s artwork with the brand’s printed product packaging not only provides funds for the program when sold, it also allows the artist to connect with society as well as highlights the condition.
The brand’s logo design perfectly demonstrates the value that Autistic Art brings to the cause. Using art to open the window for people with autism allow them to reach out to the world and let the world see their inner soul.
